Bringing a baby home from the NICU is a mix of relief and worry. Dr. Akbar knows that feeling personally: two of her three children were born prematurely. Her pediatric critical care training means that she has deep expertise & skills to handle this journey well. That includes the monitors, the medications, and the discharge summaries.
Growth and feeding: weight checks, feeding plans (breast milk, fortifier, or formula), and help with reflux or slow weight gain.
Corrected age: we track development by corrected age, meaning age counted from the due date. That way milestones are judged fairly.
Development: regular developmental screening, with referral to Babies Can't Wait (Georgia's early intervention program) or therapists when helpful.
Breathing and infection prevention: guidance on RSV prevention, vaccines on schedule, and what to watch for during cold and flu season.
Specialist coordination: we help keep appointments with eye, hearing, cardiology, lung, or GI specialists organized. We also keep your records in one place.
Parent support: time for your questions, plus our 24/7 on-call physician line for urgent concerns after hours.

No. We work alongside it. We're your baby's primary care home for checkups, sick visits, and vaccines, and we coordinate with the NICU follow-up team.
Corrected age is your baby's age counted from the due date instead of the birth date. For example, a baby born 2 months early who is 6 months old has a corrected age of 4 months. We use corrected age for developmental milestones, usually until about age 2.
